Lenoir – 27th Annual Sculpture Celebration

Hillsborough – Ebb & Flow

New artwork by the 22 local artists at the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts. The five year old gallery is owned and operated by 23 local artists and features painting, metal sculpture, photography, blown glass, kiln-formed glass, jewelry, turned wood, handcrafted furniture, pottery, mosaics and fiber arts.

Winter hours: M-Sat 11-6, Sun 1-4.

Salisbury – Spring Exhibition “Multiplicity”

Two solo exhibitions, “Structure vs Spontaneity” (David Kessler) & “Reaction” (Juie Rattley), & a group show featuring the unique art of 22 artists from Artworks Gallery explore multiple connections through works in multiple mediums. Also on view, “Celebrating Rowan County’s Young Artists,” a rotating exhibition showcasing artwork from Salisbury-Rowan County’s public,
independent, & home-schooled students.

David Kessler is an award-winning contemporary artist working in watercolors & acrylics. His paintings are marked by bright colors, bold compositions, dynamic movement, and expressive brushwork. “I approach the canvas with an open mind and no pre-conceived ideas of what will develop.”
Juie Rattley III’s creative and expressive artwork features self portraits, figure paintings, & landscapes. His artwork provides him with a variety of opportunities to present his perception of the way he sees things.
“Celebrating Rowan County’s Young Artists” exhibits celebrate both the outstanding efforts of the art specialists who teach the creative process and the extraordinary talents of our county’s youth. Susan & Edward Norvell-Present Art Partner.

Artworks Gallery is an artist-run cooperative gallery in Winston-Salem’s downtown art district, committed to offering artists a creative & responsive environment to exhibit & sell their work.

Greensboro – Sustainability Film: “Truck Farm”

Truck Farm is a whimsical 50-minute film about urban agriculture. Realizing he didn’t have any place to grow food after moving to NYC in 2009, filmmaker Ian Cheney planted his mini-farm in the bed of his 1986 Dodge pickup. The traveling, edible exhibit now brings a rural experience to urban students and has become the inspiration for a new fleet of 25 Truck Farms across the country. Directed by Ian Cheney, co-creator of the film King Corn (screened here in 2008), 2011. 50 min.

The 6th Annual Sustainability Film + Discussion Series is presented by the Weatherspoon and the UNCG Sustainability Committee to address current issues affecting the environment. The year long series features new documentary films and post-screening discussions with faculty and community experts.

Come early for an information exchange with local businesses and community groups dedicated to sustainable practices. Info exchange begins at 6pm in the Museum atrium. Films begin at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Free.

Greensboro – Art & Reading Rock: Community Day

Celebrate comics, art, and literacy with guest Chris Schweizer, author of The Crogan Adventures, a series of historically-based graphic novels for teens, and Big Bang Boom Greensboro’s hottest band for its youngest hipsters and their parents with performances at 2:30pm and 3:15pm.

For the mature set, the Weatherspoon’s featured exhibition, Trenton Doyle-Hancock: WE DONE ALL WE COULD AND NONE OF ITS GOOD, brings together diverse influences as comics, horror
movies, visionary art, and Surrealism to create a uniquely bizarre world. Join Curator of Exhibitions Xandra Eden for a special tour of the exhibition at 3:30pm.

Hands-on activities, refreshments, gallery games, and the chance to celebrate literacy with our community friends and partners–ACME COMICS, Elsewhere, Greensboro Publi c Library and others–will make this a day that is truly fun for all ages!
